In private practice, I conduct therapy with children, adolescents and adults. Areas of interest include depression, anxiety, life transitions, personal growth, parenting and relationship issues. I will work with you in a compassionate and caring fashion to create a safe place that will foster core changes and developments that will enable you to live your life happier and more successfully. If you are experiencing unwanted symptoms, such as depression or anxiety, we initially work on decreasing those symptoms so that you can return to a healthy state for you. Often a variety of skills and tools can be very helpful to reduce such symptoms and help you feel more like yourself again. Once stability has been regained, we may choose to focus on gaining insight into the causes of your symptoms and ongoing patterns to foster lasting changes.
During my work with children, I find it invaluable to also work collaboratively with parent(s). Depending on the child's age and needs, I conduct a combination of play and talk therapy to make progress towards goals set with parents. These goals might be centered around decreasing problematic behavior in home or school settings, improving unhealthy mood patterns or adjusting to changes in family composition. Childhood is an ideal time to make changes so that unhealthy ways of behaving and relating are hopefully improved before they become ingrained.
I also have a subspecialty in working with athletes. Being a competetive athlete for most of my life, I am aware of the many challenges such a lifestyle involves as well as its great rewards. I enjoy helping other athletes towards goals of achieving greater balance, coping with pressures and sacrifices, performance anxiety, and achieving greater joy from the game.
